Having a poor relationship with your neighbor can really be a nightmare. That's why I always recommend and encourage my clients to go out of their ways to make sure they and the neighbors are on good terms.
The TV show 20/20 recently did a piece about bad neighbors which I think is worth reading. I also have a great article here about fence dispute between two neighbors.
Owning a home in the San Mate Peninsula is a big investment, a big responsibility, and usually is a commitment for years to come. I, as a full time Realtor focusing on the San Mateo Peninsula area, often also suggest my clients to knock on the neighbors doors to introduce themselves, ask about the neighborhood, and get a general feel of the area on foot BEFORE they submit an offer for the property. This is just another way for you to get a better understanding about the people who live there, and safety in the neighborhood.
Because we live in such a fast paced life these days filled with technology, emails, cell phones and a busy calendars, we simply have forgotten the days where neighbors knock on your door with a fresh baked apple pie, welcoming you to the neighborhood.
