There are already enough TV shows about curb appeal. I have to admit, curb appeal does matter when selling homes in our San Mateo County. I have met people who refuse to look inside of a home just because the curb appeal isn't there. We all have to admit, it doesn't matter what the circumstances are, the first impression matters.
CNN Money recently posted this quick before and after tips on curb appeal, I hope it will give you some ideas. I also have this great video on sprucing up your curb appeal.
Being a San Mateo Realtor, I constantly consult with my clients about creating that WOW factor buoth inside and outside of the home. The idea is to make a good impression when people step out of their cars. Your front yard doesn't have to be professionally landscaped filled with exotic flowers and trees, but just inviting enough so the potential buyers take their first step inside the house.
For the interior, I also work with homeowners to declutter, organize belongings, packing and move furniture around to make the home seem much more roomy and inviting. Most of the times we can utilize the homeowners existing furniture to stage the house for mass appeal, but when needed, we also bring in professional stagers, rental furniture to truly make a model-home impression. I have a few samples of my staging work, here's a staging example that was a simple project, and a much bigger project here as well.
